My blog was initially about travelling the world, affordable luxury style. However lately it has changed more and more to traveling, affordable luxury style, with the view of a person with disabillities and food-allergies. Some years ago I was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (a chronic tissue disorder) and the last years my body has changed from working well to letting me more and more down. On top of that I have also gotten food-intolerances and allergies (no wheat, no lactose, no onion, no garlic, no seasonings, only some fruits and some vegetables… all in all I am in a very boring diet).
I have decided that I will continue to travel as long as I can, as this is one of my favorite hobbies. Yes, it’s more stressful to travel if you have a body that don’t work as you want to, but it is possible, you just have to adjust and prepare.
There are so many disabled persons out there, who want to travel and see the world, but don’t dare to. I want to show the places I have been to and what I manage to do, that it is possible and nothing to be afraid of. I can’t do everything, but I can do something! I also want to review (and research) places and hotels to help people like me to choose a place and hotel that has been quality assured from a person that really understand what to look for. “Normal” people usually don’t understand how difficult it is with pot-holes and narrow doors etc… for a person sitting in a wheel-chair (I don’t use one, but was a carer for a wheel-chair user when I was young) or how important it is that the waiter/chef understand food-allergies.
For some weeks now, I have been pondering about changing the language in the blog from Norwegian to English. Because I know that my problems are universal, I am sure my audience would be bigger if I change to English. However Norwegian is my first language and I am a better writer in Norwegian than in English. Still, I think I will convert to English. After all, most Norwegian speak English very well! For those that don’t understand English I have put a Google-translater button on the side-bar.
PS. My older posts will remain in Norwegian, but from now on, new postings will be in English at No-Backpacker.
