Road-trip in Norway, Bergen – Oslo – Bergen

As much as I love flying I also like the freedom of taking the car and drive. We have been on several road-trips from Norway, through Europe and to Italy, France and Spain. Usually Mr. No-Backpacker is the chauffeur while I drive the odd hours when he is tired.ย

This road-trip, beginning Thursday, from Bergen to Oslo and back home to Bergen will be different in many ways. Mr. No-Backpacker is not going with us so it will be me and our son who will divide the driving in between us. This is also the first road-trip after young Mr. No-Backpacker got his driving-licence. Quite exciting to have a son who can drive eh? Although the most exciting is that he will not go back to Bergen with me as this is also his moving out to study in Tromsรธ, the very north of Norway.

To return back home alone, driving 8 hours from Oslo to Bergen, is going very far out of my comfort zone, a big step. I like to drive, but I have never driven more than two hours by my own. However this is something I have been thinking of for a long time, that I want to challenge myself to do it and now is the time.

I know a lot of women who take the car beween Oslo and Bergen without doubts and I have always envied them. Not because they actually do it, but because the know they can do it, they know they are not dependent on others, and I think that is the feeling I want to get too. I travel all over the world on my own so why not driving alone too?

I love driving! I find it quite relaxing, and when I drive long distances by myself I always listen to music and sing along – so much fun :p The most I’ve driven in a day is 750 km and about 10 hours, and of course one gets tired. Since I’m moving to Oslo to study I’m gonna drive down myself (from Bodรธ) next week. Almost 20 hours of driving time! I’ll divide it into two days, but still it’s quite a lot. I guess I better make a long music playlist, haha..

I’m sure you’ll have no problem driving Bergen-Oslo-Bergen. Just put on some fun music, take a lot of breaks whenever you get tired, and don’t worry about the time.

    Safe travels! ๐Ÿ™‚

      Thanks Renate!
You know, things you haven’t done before is always a challenge to do, at least for me. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m mostly afraid that my body will go bananas on the way, but have told myself if that happens Iยดll just take a night at a nice hotel on the way. ๐Ÿ˜‰ You are right about the music and I do have a playlist with songs I like to sing-a-long to (how embarrassing is that? ๐Ÿ™‚ ). The only downside with that is that I tend to drive too fast when I drive and sing (has happened twice… more embarrassing… twice in two weeks…. at the same place… luckily I only got a fine the first time… ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I can hear my husband saying: “Use the cruise-control”…. ๐Ÿ˜€

Sorry for my late answer, I have been… on a road-trip… ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks for advice about driving in Croatia. Actually last time we had a road-trip to Italy and Spain we thought about Croatia, but because Mr. No-Backpacker had to go to Spain for work, we chose Spain instead of Croatia. Maybe next time?
